Northgate Drop-off Depot extends hazardous waste collection season

Starting April 1, 2025, the City of Wrenford will extend the hazardous waste collection season at the Northgate Drop-off Depot. The new schedule gives residents and local businesses more time to safely drop off household chemicals, paints, and electronic waste.

The depot, located at 1010 Northgate Boulevard, will now accept hazardous materials from April 1 through November 30, 2025. This change adds two full months to the collection window. To make drop-offs easier for working families and shop owners, the City will also extend Saturday hours to 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the season. The depot remains open on Wednesdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

“Making it easier to recycle and dispose of hazardous materials safely is a shared goal for our community and our local economy,” says Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. “When businesses and residents can drop off old paints, solvents, and electronics without stress, we keep our streets cleaner and support a healthier environment for everyone.”

Residents can bring items like motor oil, household cleaners, batteries, and small electronics to the depot. The City asks that all items be kept in their original containers and clearly labeled. Large quantities or commercial waste should be directed to the City’s Green Business programme or handled through a licensed private hauler. Staff will be available at the drop-off counter throughout the season to help you sort your materials and answer questions.

The extended season aligns with the City's broader commitment to reduce landfill waste and protect the Tamsin River watershed. Local businesses interested in reducing their environmental footprint can learn about sustainability incentives that support waste reduction and energy efficiency upgrades.
