Work to finish the interior of the rebuilt Northgate Aquatic Centre started this week, putting the facility on track for a late-June opening to the public. The new 50-metre pool, dive tank, and waterslide will be ready for the 2025 summer season.
The City approved the rebuild after the original facility closed for structural repairs. Council's capital works program prioritized the Northgate site to ensure equitable access to aquatic recreation across all wards. The construction team has been working through the fall and winter to complete the shell and roofing, and the current interior phase will wrap up in time for the busy summer months.
Crews are currently installing pool deck tiling, finishing the locker rooms, and running mechanical tests on the filtration and heating systems. The project is funded through the capital works program and is managed by the City's infrastructure team in partnership with the contractor.
"Getting this centre back online is a priority for residents in Northgate and the surrounding neighbourhoods," says Fiona Gallagher, general manager of community services. "We are making sure every system is tested and ready so families can enjoy the pool as soon as the weather warms up."
Interior fit-out work will continue through May. The facility will reopen with regular season hours, and staff will be on site to welcome visitors back. If you live in Northgate, Kingfisher, or Railside, the centre is only a short walk or bus ride away. Street parking is available along Northgate Boulevard and the surrounding residential streets. The bus routes that service the area will continue to run on their regular schedules.
