The Northgate Aquatic Centre will close for seasonal winter maintenance starting Thursday, November 20. The facility will remain closed through the winter and is expected to reopen in late March 2026.
During the closure, the 50-metre pool, dive tank, waterslide, and all public swim sessions will be unavailable. Staff will use this time to drain, clean, and service the filtration systems, replace worn deck surfaces, and upgrade the dive platform.
Residents who rely on the Northgate location for lap swimming, lessons, or drop-in sessions have other options nearby. The Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre on Benchlands Drive runs full public swim and lesson schedules year-round. Families looking for winter programming can also book indoor fields and fitness studios at the Westbrook Community Arena or the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre.
“This annual shutdown is essential for keeping our water quality high and our equipment safe,” said Fiona Gallagher, general manager of community services. “We use the quiet months to make sure the centre is ready for the busy spring and summer seasons.”
If you have existing registrations for classes or private bookings that fall during the closure, the recreation team will contact you directly to arrange a refund or a transfer. You can also check the holiday hours page for any scheduled breaks before the main closure.
