The City of Wrenford announces that the Northgate Aquatic Centre at 910 Northgate Boulevard will close on Friday, August 3, to begin its annual winterization and maintenance shutdown. The facility is expected to reopen in November, ahead of the winter recreation season.
During the closure, the 50-metre pool, dive tank, and waterslide will be drained and winterized. The City's Parks, Recreation & Culture team will use the time to perform deep cleaning, equipment inspections, and necessary repairs to keep the centre running safely for the next season.
"Winterizing our aquatic centres is a critical step to ensuring they run safely and efficiently for our residents all year round," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "We appreciate the community's patience as we complete this necessary maintenance."
While Northgate is offline, residents can use other aquatic and recreation facilities across the city. The Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre in Benchlands remains open with its 25-metre lap pool, leisure pool, and fitness centre. The Kingfisher Outdoor Pool and splash pad are open for the remainder of the summer season. For general recreation programs, the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre and Westbrook Community Arena continue to host gymnasium and ice activities.
The Northgate Aquatic Centre will resume its regular schedule—Monday to Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and weekends 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.—when it reopens in the fall. Winter program registration is scheduled to open the first Monday of December.
