Lights at the Falls event cancelled due to extreme wind warning

The City of Wrenford has cancelled the annual Lights at the Falls event scheduled for late December in the Fallsview neighbourhood. The decision follows an extreme wind warning issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada, which forecasts gusts exceeding 80 kilometres per hour throughout the region.

Lights at the Falls is a beloved community tradition that draws visitors from across Southwestern Ontario to view thousands of holiday lights and enjoy seasonal activities along the Tamsin River. Due to the severe weather forecast, the City cannot safely install the event structures, secure the lighting displays, or guarantee the safety of guests and volunteers.

"The safety of our residents, visitors, and staff is our top priority," said City Manager Robert Eng. "While we are disappointed to cancel the event, we want everyone to enjoy the holidays safely. We will explore options to bring the spirit of the festival back next year."

If you have already purchased tickets for vendor booths or reserved a viewing area, you will receive a full refund through the original payment method within ten business days. Event organizers will also reach out to volunteer groups to discuss rescheduling opportunities.

Residents in the Fallsview neighbourhood and nearby areas are asked to bring in outdoor decorations, secure loose items, and avoid unnecessary travel. The City's Roads & Winter Maintenance crews will be on standby to clear affected roads once the winds subside.

Thank you for your understanding as we keep Wrenford safe through the holidays.
