As warmer weather arrives, residents across Wrenford are getting ready to close their streets and gather with neighbours. The City is now accepting applications for block party permits for events planned between June and September.
Hosting a street closure requires a permit application submitted at least 15 business days before your event date. To protect residents and keep traffic moving, you will need a signed petition showing that 65 per cent of households on the affected street support the closure. All approved block parties must maintain a clear lane for emergency vehicles, use barricades rented from a third-party supplier, and keep all waste on private property. The City’s standard liability coverage protects you up to $2,000,000, though this does not extend to alcohol service liability or commercial sales. If you plan to serve drinks, they must stay on private property; open containers are not allowed on the public right-of-way. Before the permit closes, you must sweep the street and remove all trash.
Ready to bring your street together? Start by contacting [email protected] to request a petition form and application package. You can also drop by the Service Wrenford counter at Wrenford City Hall for in-person help. Once your application is approved, make sure your neighbours know the temporary parking restrictions and plan for a quick street sweep the next morning.
"Neighbourhood events are a great way to strengthen local ties and celebrate the diversity of our communities," said City Manager Robert Eng. "We want to make sure every block party runs smoothly and safely for everyone involved." For more information on community planning and local initiatives, explore the Neighbourhoods section.
