Holiday fire safety reminders for Lights at the Falls attendees

The City of Wrenford Fire Rescue is reminding residents and visitors to stay safe while attending the Lights at the Falls event in Fallsview. This year's display runs from late November through December, drawing thousands of people to the downtown streets and park areas near the Tamsin River.

With large crowds gathering outdoors in cold weather, fire prevention officers want everyone to follow a few simple safety steps. When visiting the display, keep an eye on your children and make sure they stay close to you at all times. Do not bring open flames, sparklers, or fireworks to the site. All personal heating devices must be turned off when you leave the event area. If you see anything that looks unsafe—like a downed power line, a blocked walkway, or a strange smell of smoke—call 9-1-1 right away.

Before heading out, check that your home smoke and carbon monoxide alarms have fresh batteries. Cold weather means more people will be using space heaters, fireplaces, and extension cords. Never leave cooking food unattended on the stove, and keep flammable items away from heat sources. If you host a holiday gathering, make sure all exits are clear and easy to open.

"Lights at the Falls is a cherished tradition for our community," says Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. "Our crews will be on hand to support the event, but we rely on visitors to take basic precautions. Staying aware of your surroundings and following posted safety signs helps keep everyone protected."
