Fire Station 3 opens new community first aid training program

Wrenford Fire Rescue is expanding its community outreach with a new first aid training program launching this month at Fire Station 3. The series begins January 27, 2025, and runs weekly through March 2025, offering residents hands-on instruction in CPR, defibrillator use, and basic life support.

Located at 35 Westbrook Drive in the Westbrook neighbourhood, the program is designed for adults of all ages and skill levels. Whether you have never taken a first aid course or you are looking to refresh your certification, the sessions cover essential skills for responding to choking, heart attacks, and other medical emergencies in the home or community. Instructors from Fire Station 3 will lead the classes using the station's training mannequins and practice defibrillator units.

Registration is required and takes about five minutes online. Residents can book their preferred date through the recreation program registration portal. Space is limited to twelve participants per session to ensure personalized instruction. The program is completely free, thanks to a municipal safety education grant. No prior experience or special equipment is needed; just wear comfortable clothing and bring a notebook.

"Equipping our neighbours with the confidence and skills to act in a medical emergency saves lives," says Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. "We want every community member to know that help can start the moment they see an emergency, long before an ambulance arrives."

The program is open to residents in all six wards. Learn more about your local area and upcoming neighbourhood events on the Neighbourhoods page.
