Fire prevention week open house at Fire Station 1 for 2025

On Saturday, October 11, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Wrenford Fire Rescue invites residents to Fire Station 1 at 210 Water Street for a Fire Prevention Week open house. The event is a family-friendly chance to tour fire trucks, learn about home fire safety, and pick up an emergency preparedness kit.

"Working smoke alarms are one of the most important steps you can take to keep your family safe," said Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. "During our open house, we will show you how to test them, when to replace them, and how to put together a home escape plan that works for everyone."

Fire Prevention Week focuses on helping residents protect their homes. Fire Rescue staff will be on hand to answer questions and walk you through basic fire safety checks. You will also get tips on how to plan your escape routes and talk to your children about fire safety.

Follow these smoke alarm safety rules at home:

  • Install smoke alarms in every bedroom, outside each separate sleeping area and on every level of your home, including the basement.
  • Test them at least once a month by pushing the test button.
  • Replace every smoke alarm ten years after its manufacture date, which is printed on the back of the unit.
  • Make sure alarms meet the needs of all family members, including those with hearing or vision loss.

The City will provide a free barbecue lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for everyone who attends. Children can meet the firefighters and see the equipment up close.
