Fire department celebrates 101 years of service in Wrenford

The City of Wrenford is proud to mark 101 years of service from Wrenford Fire Rescue. Since the department was first formed in 1924, our firefighters and support staff have answered calls across every ward, from the downtown core to the newest homes in Wildrye.

Today, the department operates out of five fire stations, with Fire Station 1 at 210 Water Street serving as our headquarters and prevention office. Our crews respond to more than 10,000 calls each year, ranging from traffic collisions and medical emergencies to structure fires and rescue operations.

"Over the last century, our team has grown alongside the city," says Chief Darren MacAulay, Fire Chief. "We are committed to keeping Wrenford safe through fast response times, modern equipment, and strong partnerships with our neighbours."

Fire Rescue does much more than respond to emergencies. Our prevention officers visit local schools, businesses and multi-unit buildings to teach fire safety and review fire safety plans. Residents can also book free smoke and carbon monoxide alarm inspections through the department. If you are planning a special event or a construction project, you will need to submit a fire safety plan ahead of time to keep everyone protected.

To celebrate this milestone, the department will host an open house at Fire Station 1 on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Families can meet the crew, see the latest trucks and learn about career paths in emergency response. Registration is not required.

Wrenford Fire Rescue thanks the community for its continued trust and support. For more information about fire prevention, safety programmes and station locations, visit the Fire Rescue page.
