Electric vehicle charging stations added to downtown garages

On June 10, 2025, the City of Wrenford announced that construction crews will install twelve new electric vehicle charging stalls at the Market Square Parking Garage in the downtown core. These new spots will give drivers a reliable way to top off their batteries while shopping or grabbing a meal nearby.

The upgrade is part of the city's broader plan to expand zero-emission infrastructure across Southwestern Ontario. All new parking stalls in city-owned garages and lots are now required to be prepared for charger installation, and ten per cent of these spaces will be dedicated specifically to electric vehicles. The new downtown chargers will cost $0.32 per kilowatt-hour for Level 2 charging.

“This project makes it easier for residents and visitors to drive electric while they explore our downtown,” says Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “Supporting green transportation helps keep our air clean and our local economy running smoothly.”

Drivers will notice temporary lane closures in the garage loading area starting next Monday. The city has worked closely with the Downtown Wrenford Business Improvement Area to ensure that customer access and delivery routes remain clear throughout the work. If your electric vehicle needs a charge while the installation is underway, you can use the existing public chargers at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre or the Northgate Aquatic Centre.

Once the new stalls open, you will pay for charging directly through the Wrenford Transit app or at the pay stations in the garage. The city will monitor usage and adjust pricing if needed to keep the stations available for those who need them.
