Work begins Monday, May 19, on the new weather shelter at the Downtown Transit Terminal. The City has approved the project at 1 Market Square, and crews will take approximately eight weeks to complete it.
The Downtown Transit Terminal is a busy hub for Wrenford Transit. It handles routes 1 through 14, school specials, and Wrenford Access vehicles. During construction, the main fare sales window will remain open from Monday to Saturday, 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The washrooms and Wrenford Access booking desk will stay fully operational. Riders may notice minor changes to the queue line near Market Square, but all bus bays will remain accessible.
"This shelter is a key step in making our transit network more comfortable and reliable for everyone," says Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "We have designed it to withstand our local weather while keeping sightlines clear for safety and easy access for all passengers."
The City issued a street use permit for this work under the standard construction season schedule. All necessary planning and development applications were reviewed and approved ahead of the ground-breaking. You can review the permit details and timeline on the Development Applications page. The terminal will operate as usual throughout the build.
When the work wraps up in late July, the new shelter will provide heated seating, real-time transit information displays, and additional bike parking. In the meantime, please allow a few extra minutes if you use the terminal during peak hours.
