The City of Wrenford is extending its Heritage Week programming through February with free walking tours, conservation workshops, and property owner consultations. The Arts & Heritage team will host these events at Wrenford City Hall, the Fallsview Arts Centre, and along the downtown historic district.
Heritage enthusiasts can pick up free maps for the Tamsin River Tales and Mill Street Memories walking tours at Wrenford City Hall or download them online. These self-guided routes feature historical markers and stories from the city's founding in 1834 to the present day. The tours start at the Old Mill Museum & Archives and wind through the downtown core.
For property owners interested in preserving historic buildings, the team is offering drop-in consultation hours at the Fallsview Arts Centre. Residents can learn how to navigate the Heritage Alteration Permit process and review the Mill Street Conservation Guidelines. Workshops on preparing conservation plans are also available by booking a space through the arts and culture booking system.
"We want to make sure residents and property owners have plenty of time to explore their local history and learn about the tools available to protect it," said Gwen Lachance, Heritage & Archives Coordinator. "Whether you are just curious about the past or actively maintaining a heritage home, these events are designed to be accessible and practical."
Heritage property owners can also sign up for the quarterly Heritage Property Owner Newsletter to receive conservation tips and grant deadline reminders. The application window for heritage rehabilitation incentives opens on November 1 each year, but staff are available to answer preliminary questions and review project scopes throughout the winter.
Residents can find full schedules, map downloads, and booking links on the Arts & Heritage page. For questions about permit applications or conservation grants, contact the Heritage & Archives team directly or visit Room 105 at City Hall.
