City announces 2025–2026 outdoor rink locations

The City of Wrenford is pleased to confirm the locations and opening schedule for neighbourhood outdoor skating rinks for the 2025–2026 winter season. Rinks will open as soon as temperatures hold at or below -5 °C for several consecutive days, with full operations expected by early December 2025.

Skating rinks will be set up at Riverside Flats Park, Ambrel Lake Park, Benchlands Lookout Park, Centennial Gardens, and the Wildrye Park community field. City crews have already begun inspecting surfaces, and flooding equipment will arrive on site once the weather cooperates. Residents can track real-time ice thickness and opening status on the Outdoor skating rink locations page.

"While our community thrives when we gather in shared public spaces, safety always comes first," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "We are excited to bring families back to these neighbourhood rinks for free evening and weekend skating sessions this winter."

The City reminds residents that skating on natural ice surfaces, including storm water ponds and frozen sections of the Tamsin River, is strictly prohibited. Fluctuating water levels and underlying currents create dangerous soft spots that can give way without warning. Only rinks with official City markings, nets, and lighting are safe for public use.

Skating is free for all ages. Helmets are strongly recommended and will be available at rink desks while supplies last. Skaters must wear proper ice skates; rollerblades and quad skates are not permitted on the ice. All users must follow the rules posted at each site, including keeping dogs on a leash at off-leash adjacent parks and clearing snow from rink perimeters after storms.
