Get ready to roll up your sleeves and help care for one of Wrenford’s most historic green spaces. The Parks & Trails team is hosting its annual community planting day at Centennial Gardens, located at 5 Victoria Street, on Saturday, July 5, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is free and open to residents of all ages.
Volunteers will help plant new native shrubs along the garden borders, refresh mulch on the main pathways, and clear weeds from the formal flower beds. After the morning work, participants can join an informal tour of the gardens and meet with city arborists to ask questions about local tree care. Tools, gloves, and refreshments will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own gloves and a reusable water bottle.
Because space is limited to 40 volunteers, registration is required. You can sign up online through the Wrenford 311 portal, or call 519-555-0100 to register by phone. Please register by June 20 so we can order enough supplies for everyone.
“This is a great chance to roll up your sleeves and help keep our downtown green spaces thriving for everyone,” said Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. “Whether you have never planted a garden before or you are a seasoned gardener, you will have a chance to learn new skills while meeting your neighbours.”
If you cannot join us in person but still want to help, you can adopt a rain garden through our community programme. Visit the Participate in the tree planting program page to see how you can plant a tree in your neighbourhood. You can also review the Learn about tree protection and preservation guidelines to understand how the city cares for its urban forest.
