Starting Monday, December 8, crews will begin upgrading the bus stops surrounding the Downtown Transit Terminal at 1 Market Square. The project adds new weather shelters, accessible concrete platforms, and digital real-time arrival displays to improve comfort and reliability for riders on Routes 1, 4, 8, and 13.
"Getting riders to and from the terminal faster and more comfortably is a top priority for Wrenford Transit," said Daniel Osei, Transit Manager. "These upgrades will help everyone stay dry in the winter, see exactly when their bus is arriving, and board safely."
Work includes installing four new shelters along Market Square and Water Street, widening the boarding area at the terminal curb, and connecting the new platforms to the sidewalk with grade-separated ramps. The new shelters will feature LED lighting for better visibility after dark.
The stop on Water Street, just west of the terminal entrance, will be closed from Monday, December 8, through Friday, December 12, between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. daily while crews pour the new platform and anchor the shelter. During that time, riders should use the temporary stop on Mercer Street, directly across from the terminal. Once the work is complete, all stops will return to their regular locations.
Road users should expect minor lane shifts and flagging near the terminal during construction hours. Transit vehicles will continue to operate on their normal schedules.
