Benchlands Curling Club ice resurfacing closure December 20 overnight

The Benchlands Curling Club will close its doors overnight on December 20, 2025, for a scheduled ice resurfacing. The facility is located at 430 Benchlands Drive in the Benchlands neighbourhood.

The ice resurfacing is necessary to keep the playing surface smooth and safe for all curlers. The maintenance work will take place between 11:00 p.m. on December 20 and 6:00 a.m. on December 21. All regular programming, league games, and drop-in skating scheduled for the evening of December 20 will be postponed to the following night. The club will reopen at its normal morning time on December 21.

Residents who have bookings or events planned for that evening should adjust their schedules. Please note that the overnight winter parking ban runs from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. on December 21. Vehicles left on Benchlands Drive during that window will be ticketed. Street parking is available before the ban begins or after crews clear the street in the morning.

"We are grateful to the Benchlands Curling Club volunteers for keeping the ice in top condition for our curlers," said Councilor Helen Marchetti, ward 6. "This overnight maintenance ensures the club stays safe and welcoming all winter long."

As a city-owned but club-operated facility, the Benchlands Curling Club relies on volunteer management and local membership fees to keep operations running. The city provides the building and utilities, while the club handles ice maintenance and programming.
