The Benchlands Curling Club at 430 Benchlands Drive has released its full winter tournament schedule, with games running from early November through March. The club, which is owned by the City and operated by its members, will host three regional championships, a youth development series, and weekly open sheets for the public. Registration opens on November 15, and visitors can book lanes through the club’s front desk or online.
Because the curling club sits on a residential street, players and spectators should plan their commute carefully. The City’s overnight snow route parking ban runs from December 1 to March 31, between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Crews will clear the area as soon as residential streets receive eight centimetres of snow. If you live nearby and need an exemption because of a mobility condition, you can apply for a snow route parking ban exemption.
“We want everyone to have a safe and smooth trip to the ice, especially when the weather turns cold and snowy,” said Samuel Adeyemi, GM Infrastructure and Planning. “Our crews prioritize main roads and bus routes, but we also clear residential streets like the ones near the curling club once they hit the snow depth threshold. Please check the winter maintenance plan before your next trip so you know what to expect.”
Residents planning to attend or play should dress for the weather, keep their vehicles clear of snow and ice, and allow extra time for travel. The club’s parking lot is maintained by the City during the winter, but it can fill quickly during peak tournament hours. Consider carpooling or using Wrenford Transit, which runs regular routes through the Benchlands neighbourhood.
