The Ambrel Lake Loop Expansion is now open to the public. The new pathway connects the existing trail network to the north shore of Ambrel Lake, creating a continuous 1.8-kilometre loop for walkers, runners, and cyclists. The project was completed ahead of schedule in early May 2025, thanks to careful planning and coordination with the Parks & Trails team.
The expansion adds paved, fully accessible routes that meet AODA standards, linking the main boardwalk to a new rest area and native plant garden. Construction crews removed old drainage pipes, installed new catch basins, and planted over 300 native shrubs and trees along the route to support local wildlife. The project also included new lighting along the western section to improve safety during evening hours.
"The Ambrel Lake Loop Expansion gives our community a safer, more connected place to enjoy the outdoors," said Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "We focused on keeping the natural feel of the shoreline while adding modern amenities that make the trail usable for everyone, including families with strollers and residents using mobility aids."
You can now access the new route directly from the boardwalk at Ambrel Lake Park. The pathway connects to the Tamsin River Trail System, making it easy to extend your walk or bike ride further into the city. The City has also added new signage and a map kiosk near the main entrance to help you navigate the expanded network.
The City thanks you for your patience during the construction period. Crews worked overnight and on weekends to minimize disruption to park visitors and your nearby neighbours. All temporary fencing has been removed, and the adjacent picnic shelters remain open for booking.
