Construction has officially begun on the Ambrel Lake Loop Expansion at Ambrel Lake Park, adding a new north shore pathway that will connect directly to the main Tamsin River Trail System. The project breaks ground today, November 12, 2025, with crews expected to finish the work in spring 2027.
The new loop will wrap around the eastern shoreline of the lake, providing a wider, paved surface for walkers, runners, and cyclists. It will link the existing boardwalk to the north trailhead near Ambrel Lake Road, closing a gap in the city's active transportation network. The expansion also includes improved lighting, new stormwater drainage features, and accessible ramps at all park entrances.
“Expanding our trail network is a top priority for this council. This new loop makes it safer and easier for families to enjoy the lake and the wider trail system without navigating busy roads,” says Samuel Adeyemi, general manager of infrastructure and planning.
During construction, some park washrooms near the north entrance will be temporarily closed for safety. Crews will work Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. You may notice short delays along Ambrel Lake Road near the park entrance as equipment moves in. Please follow all posted detour signs and keep to the open trails.
Once complete, the new pathway will join the 64-kilometre Tamsin River Trail System. Residents can view the full route map and find trailhead locations on the Parks & Trails page.
