2026-27 free public skating season begins November 9 at Eastfield

The 2026-27 free public skating season opens at the Eastfield Twin Arenas on November 9. You can lace up your boots and hit the ice for drop-in sessions throughout the winter. All public skating is free this season, making it easy for you and your family to enjoy the ice without a registration fee.

Sessions run from November 9 through March 31. Based on feedback from past seasons, the City has added low-sensory sessions with reduced lighting and no music, as well as stick-and-puck hours where you can practice your shots and handling skills in a relaxed setting. Skaters under 17 must wear a CSA-approved helmet at all times. Helmets are also highly recommended for adults.

If you need a pair of skates, rentals are available at the Eastfield rink desk. The standard fee covers a full season of use, and you can also pick up skate sharpening services while you are there. The ice is kept at a comfortable temperature, but remember that indoor arenas can still get chilly. Dress in layers and bring a light jacket or sweater.

You can drop in at any time during the posted session hours. There is no need to register in advance. Just show up, pay the small rental fee if you need skates, and enjoy the ice. The City has also made sure that the locker rooms and washrooms are fully accessible, and the seating areas provide plenty of room for parents and caregivers to watch.

"We are thrilled to bring free public skating back to the ice this season," said Fiona Gallagher, GM Community Services. "It is a wonderful way for families and friends to stay active and enjoy the winter together."
