Wrenford Public Library Main Branch renovation project begins May 1

The City of Wrenford is starting a major renovation of the Main Branch of the Wrenford Public Library at 150 Mercer Street. Work begins today, May 1, 2024, and will take 14 months to complete. The project is funded through the 2024–2027 Capital Plan.

The $4.2 million upgrade will improve accessibility for visitors using wheelchairs or walkers, add two new community meeting rooms, and update the building's mechanical systems. The renovation also includes refreshed lighting, energy-efficient heating and cooling, and a redesigned children's reading area. The library's collection and public computers will remain in use throughout the construction. You can reach the Main Branch desk at 519-555-0130 for daily questions.

Patrons can continue to visit the Main Branch during regular hours. Some areas, including the main staircase and the south-east corner of the children's section, will have temporary closures. Staff will direct visitors to quiet study zones and program spaces that stay open. The library board will post weekly updates on any short-term schedule changes on its website.

"This renovation is about making sure the library can serve our community for the next thirty years," said Fiona Gallagher, GM Community Services. "We are adding flexible meeting spaces and modernizing the building so everyone can access our programs comfortably and safely."

The City is managing the construction through standard development and building permits. You can track the project's progress and view the approved drawings through our Development Applications page.
