Wrenford Police Service launches business safety outreach program

Starting today, the Wrenford Police Service is rolling out a new business safety outreach programme to help shop owners and restaurant operators meet municipal safety and licensing rules before problems arise. The initiative runs through October and is led by Wrenford Police Service Chief Andrea Holloway in partnership with City By-law Enforcement and Tamsin Valley Public Health.

Instead of waiting for complaints, officers and city inspectors will visit downtown and neighbourhood businesses to review fire safety, secure premises, and proper business registration. The goal is to make sure every commercial space in Wrenford meets the requirements set out in the Municipal Act, 2001, the Building Code Act, 1992, and local by-laws. Small businesses often miss simple steps like updating their location approval or posting required occupancy signs, and a quick check can prevent fines or shutdowns later in the year.

If you run a business in Wrenford, you do not need to book an appointment. Our officers and inspectors will stop by during regular business hours. You can also prepare by checking your business licence on our online portal, confirming your building permit is current, and keeping your emergency exits clear. If you need help understanding what your specific licence covers, visit our start a business guide or contact the Economic Development team.

“When we work together to meet basic safety standards, we protect our customers, our staff, and our local economy,” said Chief Holloway.

The outreach programme is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to a safe and vibrant commercial sector. For a complete list of commercial safety requirements, seasonal inspections, and compliance resources, visit our Public Safety page or contact the Business Licensing office directly.
