The City of Wrenford has announced that the annual Wrenford Ice Days winter festival will return to Riverside Flats Park in late January 2025. Families and residents can expect a weekend of free outdoor programming, community skating, and winter activities along the Tamsin River trail system.
This year's festival will feature a full-size outdoor rink, a children's skating area, and guided winter walks. The City's Parks & Trails team will flood the rink daily to ensure safe ice conditions, using recycled water and monitoring temperatures closely. Residents are reminded that outdoor water use is permitted during winter months for ice maintenance and holiday lighting, provided it does not create runoff or waste. For tips on keeping your own water lines safe and avoiding frozen pipes, see the Protecting water lines and meters from freezing guide.
"Wrenford is a city built by the river, and we love showing off our winter landscape," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "Ice Days gives everyone a chance to enjoy the outdoors together, and we are working hard to keep the ice safe and the water use efficient."
The City's Water & Wastewater department is preparing for the seasonal shift in water demand. While indoor heating and hot water usage typically rise in winter, the City encourages residents to report any leaks promptly so water is not wasted. You can also check the Water quality reports and monitoring page for details on seasonal testing and system flushing.
Event schedules, parking information, and volunteer sign-ups will be posted closer to the event. Residents interested in helping with ice resurfacing or event setup can contact the Recreation & Culture team.
