Wrenford council approves 2024 property tax rates

Wrenford City Council approved the 2024 property tax by-law at its regular meeting at City Hall on April 16, 2024. The by-law, By-law 2024-041, sets the rates needed to fund the approved operating budget for the year ahead and aligns with the financial strategies outlined in Budget.

The overall tax increase is 2.8 per cent for residential properties. This figure is lower than the initial municipal rate increase because of adjustments to the provincial education tax that the City collects on behalf of Ontario. A typical home assessed at $360,000 will see a monthly increase of $7.25, bringing the total annual tax bill to $612.00. Multi-family properties will see a slightly higher increase of 4.1 per cent to reflect the higher cost of servicing additional units.

“Property taxes fund the roads, water, transit, and public safety services that keep our city running,” said Leah Thibodeau, General Manager of Corporate Services. “We worked closely with Council to keep the overall increase manageable while still investing in the infrastructure residents rely on every day.”

Tax notices will be mailed on May 24, 2024. Payment is due by June 30, 2024. Unpaid taxes will incur a 6 per cent penalty. Residents who prefer not to pay the full amount at once can sign up for a pre-authorized payment plan or a monthly instalment plan at the Service Wrenford counter in Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, Wrenford, ON N4Q 1A1. The City also offers fee assistance for eligible residents through the Access financial assistance programs page.
