What the program covers
The Recreation Fee Assistance program helps cover the cost of City-run recreation and culture activities when money is tight. If you are approved, you can use the subsidy for registered programs, classes, and drop-in activities at City facilities. You will also receive a Recreation Pass Card to use at the pool, fieldhouse, and arenas.
Up to $250.00 is available per person each calendar year. Unused funds do not carry over to the next year. You can also add a discount for golf tee times if you qualify.
Who can apply
You may qualify automatically if you are a Wrenford resident and receive one of the following benefits:
- Ontario Works or Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP)
- Guaranteed Income Support or Canada Pension Plan Disability
- Protected Person Status or refugee claimant documentation
- A referral from a registered social service agency or community outreach program
If you do not receive one of these benefits, you can still apply. We will look at your household income using your Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment from the most recent tax year. Explore Programs and Ontario Works to see if you might qualify for other supports.
How to apply
Applications are processed in the order they are received. Please submit your application only once. Processing takes up to 10 business days. A staff member will email you once your eligibility is confirmed.
Online application
Visit the Recreation Fee Assistance application form online. You will need to create an account. Upload a clear copy of your Canada Revenue Agency Notice of Assessment, or your benefit approval letter. You must also upload a photo of your government-issued photo ID and a recent utility bill or lease agreement for proof of your Wrenford address. If your ID shows your current address, you do not need a separate proof of residence document.
In-person application
If you need help or do not have internet access, you can apply at the customer service counter of any City recreation facility. Bring your ID, proof of address, and your benefit letter or tax assessment. You can apply at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre, the Northgate Aquatic Centre, the Ambrel Lake Recreation Centre, or the Westbrook Community Arena. Staff will walk you through the form and give you a confirmation number.
Using your discount
Once approved, your subsidy is linked to your Recreation Pass Card. Present the card when you register for programs or check in for drop-in sessions. The system will automatically apply the subsidy or deduct the correct amount.
Golf green fee discounts
If you are approved for the general program, you can also add Fee Assistance for Golf. This gives you discounted tee times at Larch Heights Golf Course. The discount applies to regular public play for tee times starting at 2:00 p.m. or later, seven days a week. You receive up to 10 discounted rounds per golf season. Each time you play, one round is deducted from your balance. The discount cannot be shared, transferred, or combined with other promotions. Unused rounds expire when the course closes for the season. To book, call the golf shop or use the online tee time booking tool. Mention your Recreation Pass Card number when you check in.
