The City of Wrenford is adjusting the timing for winter service vehicles on residential streets, with changes taking effect in October ahead of the first snowfall. The updated schedule is part of the ongoing winter maintenance planning process and aims to improve efficiency and reduce noise impact on residents during early morning clearing operations.
Under the Winter Maintenance and Parking By-law 2020-097, the overnight on-street parking ban runs from December 1 to March 31, between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. Main roads are plowed when snowfall reaches 5 centimetres, while residential streets are serviced from 8 centimetres. The Roads & Winter Maintenance team is shifting the start times for residential routes by 30 minutes to allow crews to complete their runs before the 6:00 a.m. ban lifts.
“We want to make sure our residential streets are cleared as quickly as possible while keeping the impact on overnight parking to a minimum,” says James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. “By starting these specific routes a bit earlier, we can clear the snow and apply sand more effectively before residents need to head to work or school.”
Residents should note that the parking ban itself does not change. Vehicles must still be moved off the street between 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on snow route streets once a ban is declared. The only difference is that the plows and salt trucks will begin their runs at 1:30 a.m. for the affected routes.
If you have a verified medical condition that prevents you from moving your vehicle during the ban, you can apply for a Snow Route Parking Ban Exemption. You can also check your street’s route classification and view upcoming winter service schedules through the Roads & Winter Maintenance portal.
