The City of Wrenford's Roads & Winter Maintenance team is starting its annual winter service vehicle repair and inspection program today, November 19, well ahead of the seasonal snowfall. Crews at the Civic Operations Centre are conducting safety checks, mechanical repairs, and equipment upgrades on all plows, salt trucks, and sidewalk sweepers to ensure they are ready for the December snow season.
This annual maintenance window allows the fleet shop to address any wear and tear from the spring and fall seasons. Technicians will check hydraulic systems, replace worn blades and brushes, test lighting and communications equipment, and perform oil changes on every winter operations vehicle. The team is also updating software on GPS tracking and route optimization systems to improve clearing efficiency across the city's six winter sectors.
"Getting these trucks ready before the snow starts is critical," says Samuel Adeyemi, General Manager of Infrastructure and Planning. "We want to make sure our crews have reliable equipment so they can keep our roads and sidewalks clear and safe the moment the weather turns."
You may notice increased truck activity at the depot or on designated test routes over the next two weeks. If your vehicle was damaged by a winter service vehicle during last season, or if you have a question about a repair request, you can submit a report through the damage reporting process. All claims are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis, and the City asks that you report any damage within 48 hours of the incident.
The City will begin winter maintenance operations when snowfall reaches five centimetres on main roads and eight centimetres on residential streets. For more information on how the City plans and executes winter clearing, visit the Roads & Winter Maintenance section.
