Request a winter service vehicle repair

Report damage to your vehicle caused by a City snowplow or salt truck so we can start an insurance claim.

What to do if your vehicle is damaged

If a City snowplow or salt truck hits your vehicle while you are driving or parked legally on a City street, you can report the damage. We will review your report and help you file an insurance claim if the City is at fault.

How to report the damage

Please fill out the service request form below. You must include the following information so our Roads & Winter Maintenance team can review your case:

  • Your contact name, phone number, and email address
  • The date and time the damage happened
  • The exact location (street name and nearest cross street)
  • The truck number, if you saw it written on the vehicle
  • Clear photos of the damage to your vehicle and the area where it happened

If your vehicle is stuck, leaking fluids, or blocking traffic, call 911 right away. Once it is safe, call the Roads & Winter Maintenance team at 519-555-0100 to report the incident over the phone.

What happens next

Our team will check your report against our vehicle logs and route maps. If we confirm a City vehicle caused the damage, we will send you a claim package. You will need to bring your vehicle to a local repair shop for an estimate. We do not charge a fee to submit a report.

You must report the damage within 48 hours of the incident. Reports submitted after this window may be denied because we cannot verify the details.

What is not covered

Winter maintenance damage claims are reviewed carefully. The City's insurance does not cover damage caused by:

  • Parking in a no-parking zone, snow route, or restricted area
  • Driving into a snowbank or plowed pile
  • Damage that was already on your vehicle before the snowfall
  • Broken side mirrors or windows left unlocked during snow clearing

For more information on where you can legally park during snow clearing, see the Snow route parking bans page.
