City crews began winterizing the Wildrye Splash Pad on November 20. The work is part of the city’s annual park maintenance schedule, which protects the splash pad equipment and plumbing until the warm weather returns. Crews are draining all pipes, shutting off the water supply, and covering the unit to keep it safe during the freezing months.
The splash pad at Wildrye Park is only open from late June to Labour Day each year. Once the water is fully drained, the area will remain closed for the winter. We know this splash pad is a favourite spot for families in the Wildrye neighbourhood, and we appreciate your patience while the crew works to make sure it is ready for next summer.
During the winter months, the park will still be open for walking and playing in the snow. However, please keep off the splash pad deck and the covered equipment. Keeping the area clear helps prevent damage and makes sure the site is safe for everyone when it reopens.
"Our parks and trails team works hard every fall to protect these spaces," said Maya Chen-Watson, Parks Planner. "Draining the lines and securing the cover now means we can get the splash pad running smoothly as soon as temperatures rise in the spring."
If you notice any damage to the cover, see debris left on the deck, or have a question about the splash pad schedule, please let us know. You can report park maintenance issues online through Service Wrenford, or call 311 (or 519-555-0100 from outside the city). Staff will visit the site and follow up as needed.
