Spring street sweeping is starting today, March 22, across Wrenford. Crews from the Roads & Winter Maintenance department will begin clearing sand, salt residue, and debris from the city's streets.
The program runs through April and May, sweeping neighbourhoods in phases. The first phase covers boulevards and major roads. The second phase moves to residential streets. Crews work five days a week, up to 12 hours a day, depending on weather.
To keep the work moving, residents should move vehicles off the street when you see parking signs. Parked cars slow down the sweepers and can leave patches of road uncleaned. If a car blocks the route, it may be ticketed and towed.
"Street sweeping is a vital step in keeping our roads clean and safe after the winter season," said James Whitford, Roads Superintendent. "When you move your vehicle and clear any items like basketball hoops or garden furniture from the street, you help crews do the best job possible."
Pedestrians and drivers should stay at least three car lengths away from the sweeping equipment. The machines kick up dust and debris, so close your windows and use the sidewalk when possible. If you have a garbage, recycling, or organics cart out on collection day, crews will work around it.
You can track the sweeping schedule and confirm your route on the Roads & Winter Maintenance page. If you spot a pothole or a drainage issue left over from winter, report it on the Report a pothole page. Thank you for helping us keep Wrenford clean as we head into spring.
