Rental housing inventory report shows supply growth

The City of Wrenford today, June 12, 2024, released its latest Rental Housing Inventory Report, showing a steady increase in available rental units across the city. The report, updated every spring, tracks new builds, conversions, and non-market housing projects that have come online or are nearing completion.

This year, Wrenford added 340 new rental homes across six neighbourhoods. Projects like Corvid Creek Housing on Corvid Way, Larch Heights Family Homes on Larch Heights Drive, and Ambrel Lake Senior Residences on Ambrel Lake Road are now open to residents. Several other buildings in Northgate and Benchlands are also moving into the final stages of construction. These additions give families, older adults, and young workers more places to live close to where they work and shop.

“Housing is a basic need, and it is our job to make sure Wrenford has enough homes for everyone,” said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. “We are working with developers, non-profit partners, and all levels of government to keep the supply growing. The more homes we build, the more choices you will have.”

The report also highlights the City’s ongoing efforts to keep existing rental stock in good shape. Through the Housing team, the City offers grants and low-interest loans to help property owners make energy-efficient upgrades and keep rents affordable. If you own a rental building, you can learn about these supports on the Find rental housing inventory page.

For residents who need help finding a place or applying for subsidized housing, the City runs a Coordinated Access Program. You can get an intake assessment and speak with a housing navigator by calling 519-555-0100 or visiting the Service Wrenford counter at City Hall. The full 2024 inventory report is available on the City’s open data portal.

The City is also updating its long-term plan, the Wrenford Housing Strategy 2025–2030. Public feedback sessions are scheduled for later this year. In the meantime, you can view the draft priorities and upcoming tactics on the Access housing strategy documents page.
