Open-air burning ban lifted for Wrenford residents

Effective Monday, May 27, 2024, the City of Wrenford has lifted the temporary outdoor burning ban. Residents are now permitted to return to regular outside burning practices when following the standard regulations set by the Fire Rescue department.

With the spring rains and cooler temperatures, fire hazard levels have dropped across Southwestern Ontario. The City reviewed the current conditions and decided it is safe to resume outdoor burning for residential properties. If you have been waiting to clear your property, you can now set out paper bags for curbside collection or use a fire pit in your yard.

Resident burning is allowed from April 1 to October 31. You must have a valid seasonal burning permit, which costs $25.00 and can be purchased online or at the Service Wrenford counter. Burning is only permitted between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily. You must keep a mesh spark guard on your fire pit with openings no larger than 1.5 centimetres, and all fires must stay at least three metres away from buildings, fences, and trees.

"We want residents to enjoy the outdoors safely," said Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. "Please keep an eye on weather conditions and follow our permit guidelines. If winds pick up or the air feels dry, it is always best to wait or put the fire out completely."

Propane barbecues and certified outdoor heating devices are always allowed. Fireworks remain prohibited year-round without a special permit. If you need a permit or have questions about safe burning practices, visit the open-air burning page or call Fire Station 1 at 519-555-0115.
