The City of Wrenford is upgrading the recycling bins at the Northgate Drop-off Depot starting today, August 20, 2024. The new bins are designed to make it easier for residents to sort paper, plastics, and metals correctly.
The depot at 1010 Northgate Boulevard is one of two drop-off locations in the city, but it handles the highest volume of household recycling. The new bins feature clear colour-coded lids and large pictogram signs so you can drop off the right materials without guessing. The old bins are being replaced as part of a broader effort to keep contamination rates low and meet the city's waste diversion goals. Crews will also install new signage on the ground to direct traffic flow and reduce bottlenecks during peak Saturday afternoon hours.
The upgrades are managed by the Roads & Winter Maintenance team as part of the city's ongoing waste infrastructure improvements. "When people can sort quickly and confidently, it saves time for everyone at the depot and reduces the amount of good recycling that gets sent to the landfill," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "These upgrades are a simple change that makes a big difference in how we manage our household waste."
The new bins are available starting today, Wednesday, August 20, during normal depot hours. The depot is open Wednesday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. If you have questions about what materials can go in the blue bin, you can find a full list on the Blue bin and recycling collection page.
The City also operates the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility for larger recycling and waste drop-offs. For the full schedule of collection days and depot hours, visit Garbage & Recycling.
