Northgate Drop-off Depot opens for seasonal household hazardous waste

The Northgate Drop-off Depot is reopening for the seasonal waste drop-off programme, starting this Saturday. Located at 1010 Northgate Boulevard, the depot will welcome residents from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Wednesdays and Saturdays through the end of the fall.

As the weather warms up, many households have items they need to get rid of safely. The depot is the right place for household hazardous waste. This includes leftover paint, solvents, automotive fluids, batteries, pesticides, propane tanks, fluorescent bulbs, and thermometers. We ask that you bring these items in their original containers, packed in leak-proof bags, and kept upright in your trunk. Never mix chemicals together.

The depot also accepts other seasonal drop-offs, such as old electronics and bulky household items. For the full list of accepted materials and any applicable fees, please review our household hazardous waste guide.

"We want to make it simple and safe for residents to dispose of items that do not belong in the regular garbage cart," says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "Dropping these materials off at the depot keeps harmful substances out of our landfills and prevents them from leaking into the Tamsin River and our local waterways."

The main household hazardous waste depot remains open at the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility on Saturdays from May through October. Both locations work together to help the city reach its goal of diverting 60 per cent of residential waste from the landfill by 2030.
