Northgate depot opens for hazardous waste collection

The City of Wrenford is making it easier for residents in the north part of the city to dispose of household hazardous waste. Starting this spring, the Northgate Drop-off Depot at 1010 Northgate Boulevard will accept a full range of household hazardous materials. You can drop off paints, solvents, automotive fluids, batteries, pesticides, propane tanks, fluorescent bulbs, and thermometers. There is no fee for Wrenford residents, and you do not need an appointment.

The new drop-off service runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., matching the depot's regular hours. Keep your items in their original containers. Place them upright in the trunk of your vehicle or in a leak-proof box to prevent spills during transport. Never mix chemicals, and keep children and pets away from the loading area. If you have a large quantity or a container that is leaking, please speak with a depot attendant before entering the site.

"We heard from residents that driving across town to the main depot was a barrier," said Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. "Bringing this service closer to home makes it easier to keep harmful chemicals out of our soil and waterways. Now you can safely dispose of these items on your way to the gym or the library."

The Northgate depot joins the East Wrenford Waste Management Facility, which continues to accept hazardous waste year-round. If you are unsure whether an item is hazardous, check the Household hazardous waste page or call the City at 519-555-0100. Please follow the safety rules on the depot signage and dispose of your waste responsibly.
