New supportive housing opens near Northgate Centre

The City of Wrenford, in partnership with Tamsin Valley Housing Co-op, today opened a new 32-unit supportive housing building at 920 Northgate Boulevard. The project adds much-needed permanent housing for residents with complex needs and is located just steps from the Northgate Aquatic Centre and local transit routes.

The building was funded through the Wrenford Housing Capital Initiative, a City program that provides capital funding to non-profit developers for affordable housing construction. Each of the 32 units is designed to be fully accessible and features modern amenities. Rent is calculated at 30 per cent of a resident’s net monthly income, with a maximum cap of $1,480.00 per month. All units will remain affordable for a period of 20 years under the City’s affordability covenant.

“This building is a vital step toward our goal of ensuring everyone has a safe, stable place to call home,” said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. “By working directly with local housing operators and health partners, we can make sure that residents have the on-site support and services they need to thrive.”

On-site services include a Supportive Housing Intake Coordinator who helps residents connect with Tamsin Valley Public Health, Ontario Works, and community wellness resources. The building also features secure storage for belongings and a shared community room for group activities and social events.
