New on-demand transit service launches in Benchlands neighbourhood

Wrenford is adding on-demand transit to the Benchlands neighbourhood starting this week. The new service area is part of the expanded Wrenford Flex network, designed to give riders a faster, more flexible way to get around the city.

Wrenford Flex works like a shared ride. You book a trip through the Wrenford Transit app or by calling 311. The system groups your trip with other riders heading in the same direction and sends a small bus to pick you up at a pre-approved virtual stop near your home or destination. This means you avoid long walks to busy bus stops and get a more direct route.

The Benchlands service zone covers the main residential streets and the Benchlands Lookout Park area. Riders can book trips up to 14 days in advance, with a standard 10-minute pick-up window. The service runs Monday to Friday from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., and includes late-night hours on Routes 3 and 8 until midnight. Fares are the same as the fixed bus routes, so a single ride costs $3.50 for adults and $3.00 for youth and seniors. Monthly and annual passes still apply.

“We are always looking at how we can make transit work better for every neighbourhood,” said Daniel Osei, Transit Manager. “Adding Benchlands to our on-demand network means fewer empty buses running on low-ridership stretches, and a quicker, more reliable ride for people who live there.”

To use Wrenford Flex, download the app or visit a Downtown Transit Terminal to register. If you need help booking a trip, call 311 or visit the Service Wrenford counter at City Hall.
