Multi-family property waste services updated for new term

The City of Wrenford is updating how garbage, recycling and organics are collected at multi-family properties across the city. Starting with the new council term, property managers and landlords will find updated guidelines and streamlined support to help buildings meet their waste diversion requirements under the Waste management bylaw and regulations.

Multi-family buildings, including apartment complexes and townhouse clusters, are required to participate in approved waste diversion programs. The City has refreshed its Multi-family property waste services page to reflect the latest provincial Blue Box program changes and the City's own Waste Diversion Guide for Multi-Unit Buildings.

Under the updated approach, property owners can register their buildings through the City's Multi-family Hauler Registry. Once registered, the City's waste collection contractors will coordinate directly with building managers to arrange drop-off locations, schedule bulk waste pickups, and distribute reusable recycling bags to residents. The service is designed to make sorting easier for tenants and reduce contamination in the Blue Bin and Green Bin streams.

If you live in a multi-family building and want to see better waste services, you can help. Let your landlord or property manager know that the City has updated its collection guidelines. Explain that participating in the program makes recycling and organics collection more convenient for everyone, helps keep the city clean, and supports the City's goal to divert 60 per cent of residential waste from the landfill by 2030.

“Updating our multi-family waste services is a practical step toward a cleaner, more sustainable Wrenford,” says Ben Achterberg, Waste Programs Supervisor. “When landlords and tenants work together, we see fewer contaminated carts and more materials successfully recycled or composted.”

Property managers are encouraged to review the updated Waste collection for businesses guidelines and contact the waste collection team to schedule a site assessment. Residents can also download the Waste Diversion Guide for Multi-Unit Buildings to share with building management.
