Fire Station 4 expansion project breaks ground in East Wrenford

The City of Wrenford officially broke ground on the Fire Station 4 expansion project on December 17. A sod-turning ceremony was held at 1220 Ambrel Lake Road in East Wrenford, and construction will begin in January 2025. The upgraded station is expected to open in late 2026.

This expansion is a vital investment in public safety and community wellness, said Robert Eng, City Manager. Fire Station 4 will not only shorten emergency response times for the growing East Wrenford neighbourhood, but it will also provide lasting public amenities that serve residents every day.

Project details were approved by Council during the December 2024 budget cycle. Beyond its core emergency response duties, the expanded facility is designed to act as a neighbourhood hub. The new building will include:

  • A multi-purpose community room that can host local meetings and youth programmes
  • A publicly accessible washroom for pedestrians using the nearby Tamsin River Trail
  • A Blue Box recycling drop-off point to make sorting easier for area residents

The community room and washroom address real gaps in this fast-growing area, said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. We are thrilled that firefighters and staff will share these spaces with the neighbourhood.

Construction work will take place Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with weekend work scheduled as needed. Traffic control staff will be on-site to guide vehicles and assist pedestrians. Residents along Ambrel Lake Road will see temporary parking restrictions. Please use neighbouring streets and follow all posted detours.
