The City of Wrenford is pleased to announce the completion of the modernization at Fire Station 2, located at 880 Northgate Boulevard. The nine-month capital upgrade wraps up today, delivering improved firefighter safety, better equipment storage, and updated living quarters for on-shift crews.
Council approved the $1.2 million project through the 2024 Capital Works Program earlier this year. The work replaced the original 1980s bay doors with high-speed, insulated models, installed a new smoke extraction system in the apparatus bay, and completely overhauled the crew living spaces. Upgraded electrical panels now support heavier modern firefighting tools, and the renovation added energy-efficient heating and cooling to keep the building comfortable year-round.
Fire Chief Darren MacAulay says the upgrades were long overdue. “Keeping our firefighters safe means giving them the best tools and facilities possible. This modernization ensures Station 2 is ready to serve our community for decades to come.”
Residents will notice no changes to emergency response times or service areas. Crews have already moved back into the renovated spaces and resumed full operations.
The project was funded through the City’s approved capital budget and municipal reserves. Because the work was covered by existing funds, it did not require a property tax increase. Council reviewed the project at the Finance Committee stage before giving final approval in March 2024, following the usual budget engagement process.
