The City of Wrenford Fire Rescue is reminding developers and contractors that a fire safety plan is required for all new construction projects before work begins. The rule applies to every site within the city limits, from small home additions to large commercial builds.
Building a new structure changes how fire and smoke move through a neighbourhood. A fire safety plan helps firefighters reach the site quickly and know exactly where workers are and how to get them out safely. Your plan must show evacuation routes, the location of fire extinguishers and water connections, and how you will handle hot work like welding or cutting. It also needs to explain how you will coordinate with the Wrenford Police Service and Wrenford Paramedic Services if an emergency happens.
“Construction sites bring extra risks, from open trenches to temporary power lines,” says Deputy Fire Chief Simon Hartley. “When you share a clear plan with us ahead of time, you keep your crew safe and make sure our firefighters can do their jobs without surprises.”
To get started, visit the Fire safety plans for construction sites page and download the correct template. Small residential projects under $15,000 can use the Generic Construction Plan template. Larger commercial or multi-unit builds need a Custom Site-Specific Plan. Upload your completed plan and payment through the Service Wrenford portal. Fire prevention officers review submissions and issue an approval or a list of changes. Do not break ground until your plan is approved.
If you have questions about what your project needs or how to fill out the forms, contact the Fire Prevention office at Fire Station 1 (Headquarters) or email [email protected]. The City also offers free site walk-throughs for larger projects to help you prepare.
