The City of Wrenford Fire Rescue invites residents to an open house at Fire Station 1 to learn about home fire safety during Fire Prevention Week. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 210 Water Street.
This year's National Fire Protection Association theme is Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You! Working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire by more than half. During the open house, you can tour our fire engines, see how we use special equipment, and pick up free smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Our officers will show you how to test your alarms, replace old batteries, and write a simple home escape plan that works for your family.
Keep your alarms safe by testing them once a month and replacing them every ten years. Keep your escape routes clear of clutter so you can get out fast. If you need help installing an alarm, a member of our team will be on site to walk you through the steps. We will also have a free barbecue lunch and activities for kids.
'A working smoke alarm gives you the extra seconds you need to get everyone out safely,' says Simon Hartley, Deputy Fire Chief. 'We want every household in Wrenford to have a plan and the tools to stay safe.'
