The City of Wrenford is continuing its annual fire hydrant flushing program to clean the water distribution pipes in the Northgate area. Over the next few weeks, crews will focus on streets near Northgate Boulevard and the surrounding neighbourhood to maintain water quality and pressure across the system.
Fire hydrant flushing continues in Northgate area
Hydrants will be flushed between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. This work may affect Wrenford Water customers living on or near Northgate Boulevard, Corvid Way, and nearby residential streets. If you use water during the time your street is being flushed, you might notice turbidity, which means the water looks cloudy or dirty. The water is perfectly safe to drink, but the cloudiness can last for up to 20 minutes. You may also see a temporary drop in water pressure. If this happens, simply run a cold water tap for a few minutes until it runs clear.
"Flushing helps us keep our water system healthy and ensures hydrants are working properly for Fire Rescue," says Patrick Nguyen, Water Operations Manager. "We ask that residents let the water run until it is clear, and avoid doing laundry or running the dishwasher while crews are active on your block to prevent air from entering your plumbing."
Residents who have questions about the flushing schedule or water quality can call 519-555-0100 or email [email protected]. You can also visit us in person at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The City will post updates on the flushing schedule for future areas on the City Services page and through the Wrenford Emergency Alert Network. For more information on how we care for your drinking water, visit Water & Wastewater.
