The City of Wrenford is beginning its annual fire hydrant flushing program in the Westbrook area. Over the next few weeks, crews will flush hydrants along Westbrook Drive and nearby streets. This routine work cleans the water distribution pipes and helps keep our water system safe and efficient. For more information on how we maintain our water and fire systems, visit our Fire Rescue page.
Flushing will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. If you use water in your home or business while a hydrant on your street is being flushed, you may notice a temporary drop in water pressure. You might also see cloudy or discoloured water in your taps. This is called turbidity. It is caused by harmless minerals naturally present in the water that have been stirred up during the flushing process. The water is perfectly safe to drink.
If you experience cloudy water, run your cold water tap for a few minutes until it runs clear. Do not use hot water during this time, as it can draw the sediment into your home’s water heater. Most residents will not notice any changes, but it is a good idea to avoid doing laundry until the water runs clear.
The City will notify the public when the flushing program moves to other areas. You can stay up to date by signing up for emergency alerts and City news updates.
