The City of Wrenford will begin its annual fire hydrant flushing program in the south end on September 20. The work aims to keep our water distribution system healthy by clearing out sediment and checking water pressure in the pipes. Crews will flush hydrants between 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. each day until the work moves to the next area.
This round of flushing will affect residents and businesses in the south end, including the Ambrel Lake, Southview, Orchard Park, Ashgrove, Eastfield, Tamarack, Industrial Park East, Meadowlark, Stonebridge, and Wildrye neighbourhoods. You may notice cloudy or dirty-looking water for up to 20 minutes if you use water while a hydrant on your street is being flushed. This cloudiness is caused by harmless iron and mineral deposits that have been stirred up. The water is safe to drink, but you might want to wait until it runs clear before doing laundry or running a dishwasher.
If you notice a drop in water pressure, simply turn off your taps and wait a few minutes. The pressure will return on its own once the crew finishes that section. You will never be left without water during the program.
"Flushing is a quick and necessary step to protect the quality of drinking water across the city," said Patrick Nguyen, Water Operations Manager. "It helps us catch any changes in the system early and ensures our hydrants are ready for emergencies all year long."
The City will send out notices when flushing begins in other parts of the city. If you have questions about the work or need to report a water issue, you can reach us at 519-555-0100 or email [email protected].
