Council recognizes Tamsin Valley Community Foundation for community investment

On June 10, 2024, Wrenford City Council formally recognized the Tamsin Valley Community Foundation for a $325,000 community investment grant. The award, announced earlier this month, will support two major projects that improve safety and recreation for residents.

The grant is part of the Foundation's Community Grants Program, which provides funding to municipalities for local projects. City Council passed a resolution thanking the Foundation and directing that the funds be allocated to the Corvid Creek Ravine Pathway Extension and the Westbrook Community Arena exterior lighting upgrade.

The pathway project, led by the Parks & Trails team, will create a safer, all-weather connection between Riverside Flats Park and Benchlands Lookout Park. Construction is expected to begin in spring 2027, aligning with the city's long-term trail master plan. The Westbrook Community Arena upgrade, managed by Recreation & Culture, will install energy-efficient LED lighting and secure fencing around the ice pads. These improvements will make evening public skating safer and more accessible for families in the Benchlands and Westbrook neighbourhoods.

"Grants like this from the Foundation allow us to deliver high-quality facilities and programmes without raising taxes," said Fiona Gallagher, General Manager of Community Services. "We are grateful for this partnership and the positive impact it will have on our residents."

The funds will be tracked in the 2024 operating budget under the Community Services capital account. The City will issue a tender for the pathway construction later this year, while the arena lighting project is scheduled to break ground in the fall.
