Council approves 2025 budget that balances affordability and service quality

During the Council meeting on Oct. 9, 2024, City Council approved the 2025 operating and capital budgets for the City of Wrenford. The vote took place in the Council Chambers at Wrenford City Hall, 100 Mercer Street.

The approved 2025 operating budget is $348.5 million. To pay for it, Council approved a 5.8 per cent municipal property tax increase. For an average home valued at $425,000, your municipal tax bill will go up by about $19.50 a month.

The 2025 capital budget is $112 million. This money goes toward fixing and upgrading the things you use every day. It covers road repairs, water main replacements, and new Wrenford Transit buses. It also supports upgrades to Riverside Flats Park and the Tamsin River Trail system.

“We worked hard to keep your taxes low while protecting the services you count on,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “This budget keeps Wrenford affordable and makes sure we take care of our community.”

Keep in mind that the 5.8 per cent number is an average. Your actual bill will depend on your property’s value and how much that value changed this year. If your property value went up more than the average, your bill will go up more. If it went up less, your bill will go up less.

The final tax notices will arrive in early November. You can see the full budget details, council resolutions, and spending plans on the budget page. To learn how the city plans for the future, visit the budget engagement page.
