City Council approved the City of Wrenford’s 2024 operating and capital budgets on January 22, 2024, at a meeting in the Council Chambers at Wrenford City Hall. The approved budgets include an average 2.5 per cent increase in property taxes and a 4.2 per cent increase in utility fees.
The 2.5 per cent property tax increase is split between 1.5 per cent to fund core City services, such as roads, parks, and emergency services, and 1.0 per cent to renew ageing infrastructure. Utility fees will rise by 4.2 per cent to cover inflation and keep operating costs in line with upgrades to the Tamsin River Water Treatment Plant and Wrenford Water Pollution Control Plant.
For the average property, the increase translates to the following annual costs:
- $38 for a condominium unit (assessed at $350,000)
- $105 for a single-family home (assessed at $450,000)
- $195 for a business property (assessed at $600,000)
The 2024 Capital Budget totals $38.0 million and supports the projects in the Capital works program. Major investments include replacing water mains in the Benchlands and Old Mill neighbourhoods, resurfacing 12 kilometres of residential streets, and upgrading the fieldhouse at the Tamsin Valley Leisure Centre. The budgets also set aside $2.1 million for climate-supporting initiatives, including green infrastructure and active transportation projects.
Property tax notices will be mailed to residents on February 2, 2024. Bills are due on the last business day of February, April, June, and September each year. Residents can pay by monthly instalments through the Tax Instalment Plan (TIPP), by pre-authorized monthly payments, or online through Service Wrenford. If you have questions about your tax notice, contact Revenue Services at 519-555-0100 or email [email protected].
“Our residents have told us that they want reliable services without a heavy tax burden,” said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. “This budget carefully balances those priorities. We are keeping taxes manageable while still investing in the roads, water systems, and community facilities that keep Wrenford running smoothly.”
