Council advances 589 units of new housing in Westfield development

During its meeting on Monday, May 20, 2024, City Council approved the Westfield development, a large new housing project that will bring 589 homes to the Eastfield neighbourhood. This project is a key part of the City's plan to meet the needs of our growing community and supports the goals in our Housing strategy.

The approved plan includes a mix of housing types to suit different household sizes and budgets. The development will feature:

  • 210 market rental apartments
  • 140 townhouses
  • 95 below-market rental units
  • 80 ownership condominiums
  • 64 social and supportive housing units

By-law and zoning approvals are now in place to move the project forward. The design follows the standards in the Official Plan and respects the Tamsin River shoreline. Construction is expected to begin later this year. The project also includes new green spaces, walking paths, and improved access to the Tamsin River Trail System.

"Wrenford is growing, and it is important we plan for the homes our community needs," said Mayor Danielle Okafor-Price. "This development brings a wide range of housing options to a neighbourhood that already has strong transit links and community services. We are working with senior governments and housing partners to ensure the below-market and supportive units are delivered on time."

What this means for residents

The Westfield development is located on city-owned land adjacent to Eastfield Road. Traffic and utility upgrades will happen before construction starts.
